Welcome to the Iowa City Bahá’í Community website!
The Bahá’ís of Iowa City and friends are engaged in efforts to bring about the betterment of society and to acquire skills for service to humankind. We believe social change starts with spirituality—individuals unlocking their soul’s desire for service and working alongside others for the good of their neighborhoods and communities. Our community is a workshop open to all for hands-on learning about this process.
Our focus is on creating a spiritual foundation for community-building through devotional gatherings, spiritual classes for children, a program for the spiritual empowerment of younger youth. and study circles for older youth and adults. We also offer “Firesides” for those interested in learning more about the Bahá’í Faith.
All are most welcome to join us!

Basic Principles of the Bahá’í Faith
“The Bahá’í Faith recognizes the unity of God and of His Prophets, upholds the principle of an unfettered search after truth, condemns all forms of superstition and prejudice, teaches that the fundamental purpose of religion is to promote concord and harmony, that it must go hand-in-hand with science, and that it constitutes the sole and ultimate basis of a peaceful, an ordered and progressive society.”
“It inculcates the principle of equal opportunity, rights and privileges for both sexes, advocates compulsory education, abolishes extremes of poverty and wealth, exalts work performed in the spirit of service to the rank of worship, recommends the adoption of an auxiliary international language, and provides the necessary agencies for the establishment and safeguarding of a permanent and universal peace.”
